@Blackfoot @Cailan
Dove hummed as she trotted to the entrance to the Pine Forest, she had been the one to offer Blackfoot up for a hunt, the leader decided it would be a good chance for Dove to formally meet Cailan. Arios had told his mother about his own encounter with the man, something that gained the wolf respect from the mother. Though she would hold her judgment for when she saw how he treated Blackfoot. Dove was one to believe that the woman deserved the very best when it came to family and mateship.

The woman shook herself, her pelt shedding from the warm weather had revealed old scars. The ones on her legs more visible and the larger one on her chest stand out against the sunlight. The worst being the scars on her hindquarters. Large identical claw marks on her hocks while a large scar tore cross the lower part of her back the only reminder of the tail she once had. She had noticed that with her pelt shedding the past was more prominent, though she chose to ignore it. Not wanting to be reminded of her injuries. She lowered her head to the ground, inhaling deeply and feeling her pupils dilated at the scent of caribou. Her mouth began to water as she waited for Blackfoot to show up with Cailan. A soft rumble purring in her chest at the thought of dragging home the prized animal.

Her gaze snapped up when she heard the soft patter of paws. A grin spreading across scarred features when the two figures appeared.

"Blackfoot." She rumbled, stepping forward to gently brush her cheek against the top of the woman's head in greeting. Pulling back after the brief contact to allow the woman her space, turning to her companion and giving him a once over, offering a small smile and a short nod to the man in greeting.

"Cailan, isn't it?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly as she looked down to the man.

"I believe you've met my son Arios." She murmured, her tone warming slightly when she spoke of her pup per usual. She turned her head and pointed her nose to the north.

"The scent is still strong, they've been moving upwind of us." She murmured to Blackfoot. Rolling her shoulders back and moving her head up to offer her neck a moment of relief.

It seemed that the hunt was to be today. Word had passed through the pack quickly, fleeing from mouth to ear as soon as the captains first announced a sighting. More serious efforts had been organized to track the herd. When at last they lurked within the pine forest, the call had been made.

The hunting party would be composed of him, Dove, and Blackfoot.

By all accounts, the party was one of the worst that could have been crafted. It featured strained lovers—if the term could still be applied—and a suspicious second in command. It was Dove's position as Blackfoot's confidant, as well as her general icy atmosphere, that had formed the first seeds of doubt within Cailan's belly. Time and frustration had watered them into small saplings and he kept such resentment well tended to.

Alas, while this team was ill-fated, it was the best they could offer. Monroe was a healer with minimal hunting experience. Should any of them fall, he'd be necessary. Newt was needed to maintain order and watch the pups. Luna, too, was not cut out for the grueling work of caribou hunting.

So in the end, they were all that was left.

When he approached, Dove was the first to greet him. "Cailan, isn't it?" Blue eyes briefly met purple and he gave a curt nod. “Dove," he murmured in response. He'd heard the captain's name often enough to place face with name.

"I believe you've met my son Arios." Cailan thought back to the raging ball of fluff that he'd stumbled into none too long ago. “A sweet boy," he offered with another nod. No matter his reservations against Dove, he did not hold them against her son.

Dark ears angled toward the captain as mention was made of the caribou migration.

“You seemed to replace your brain with your heart ."

It had been a good idea, at the time. How was she to know that they would be on shaky terms as of late? A hunting excursion for the three of them so that Dove and Cailan could get to know one another a bit better because what built better bonds than a bit of hunting?

Feh...

She waited for them both to arrive, Dove was first and came forward to give her traditional greeting. A soft touch to her head, something she had come to... well, if not tolerate then... like, a little. Affection was an interesting phenomena and she was starting to understand it a bit more. "Dove." There was warmth in her voice as she spoke.

Cailan was next to show and Blackfoot glanced over towards him with half of a nod of her head in greeting. Icy cold, feelings still bruised after the last spat. The pair spoke stilted pleasantries which Blackfoot offered to take no part in, instead lifting her muzzle and tilting her ears towards the herd. "Good. Will take them by surprise." With a glance to each of her party member's she began to trek forward towards the herd.

Carefully, quietly, but swiftly she lead them towards the herd. A group of caribou lead by a white buck the likes of which she'd never seen before... Impressive, he was.

They would certainly need to steer clear of him. Her attention shifted towards the bulk of the herd with the does and their fawns. Perhaps they could take down one of them... "Maybe a fawn? Ideas?" She always lead the charge right in with the pack but today she was with her friends so why not sit back a bit and see what ideas they had.

@Blackfoot @Cailan
Dove rolled her shoulders back, easing down to a crouched position so her large frame would be hidden away from the heard as they discussed ideas. She had felt the tension growing in the air and couldn't help but wonder how Blackfoot and Cailan were standing at the moment. They had no doubt gotten into an argument before the scheduled hunt, Blackfoot had refused to speak to the man upon his arrival.

"Maybe a fawn? Ideas?"

Dove stretched her back legs out rolling her shoulders once more as she looked over at her friend.

"Maybe, though Caribou are a bit different from deer, the mother isn't likely to scatter and leave her fawn like smaller deer." She murmured, looking out at the ones before her, scanning for a weak member. Her eyes always drawn back to the white beast standing in the middle.

"Could always offer up a distraction and injure one of them, that way if we chase the herd they'll be left behind for an easier kill." She rumbled, her voice low as magenta orbs focused in on the lead male. Licking her lips slightly before glancing back at Blackfoot, remembering that she could no longer lead hunts as she used to. She had to wait for Alpha's approval.

"Any Ideas? Cailan?" She murmured, barely glancing back at the male before she looked back out at the herd. He may have softened her up by getting in well with her son, but someone that made Blackfoot upset left a sour taste in her mouth at times. Clenching her jaw sightly to keep herself from getting to worked up.

ocean eyes...

...

"Any ideas, Cailan?"

A huff of strained laughter escaped the man, his eyes half-lidded and glazed with pain. "Not any good ones," he gurgled, speaking only to himself. His cheek rested against the moss, ears lax and body prone against the forest floor. His belly rose and fell with each haggard breath. The tension in his chest was such that he avoided breathing in through his ribs. One or two were surely broken and, in truth, Cailan was not keen discovering which ones were. Everything in this moment hurt, hence why he was content to lay undefended on the forest floor.

Absently he knew that Dove and Blackfoot were still hunting. That said, the pounding in his head and the throb within his jaw kept him far too distracted to feel concern. He was little more than a dandelion with a brain of cotton fluff—at least for a few more moments.

I'll get up in a second.

The thought slipped into consciousness then faded away.

I'll—

Blearily, his eyes reopened and his pupils focused upon the nearby trees. The sound of approaching paws forced him to ease, straining, onto his belly. A somber smile touched his lips but it was tight from pain.

"Time to go home?" He rasped, gritting his teeth and looking to his battered alpha.

-------

If there was one thing to make you reconsider your anger and how much you loved someone, it was the brush of death. When their quarry kicked and fought them, wounding Cailan and Dove in the process. At first she'd managed to avoid most of the hits, growing angrier and angrier the more wounded her loved ones became. In the end it was her against the buck in a fit of righteous rage... He parried one attack, wounding a shoulder and leaving her out of breathe... but then he retaliated again and caught her a hefty hit under her jaw.

With a whimper of pain she realized that this would not end favorably for the hunters. It was time to call it off. Vowing revenge she ducked back towards her friends. Her heart leaped at the sight of Cailan crippled on the earth, eyes widening as she saw his injured body. All she wanted to do was protect him... Her earlier anger had evaporated and all that was left was terror that he would die and leave her alone. Her eyes flashed over to Dove, eyeing the wounded huntress and assessing her wounds. The woman was battered but she would live and had gotten off lighter than Cailan.

She lay at his side, prepared to help him up onto his paws to help him stumble back home. "Ye-ARGH!" Her words of assent were cut off by a pained yell. The bruising under her jaw would not be letting the already quiet woman speak any more than necessary... It wouldn't be so bad if she didn't need her jaw to eat.

And fight.

At least they were alive.

Stiffly she nodded her head and then looked at Dove, tilting her muzzle towards the travel home.
