 ▼ Marcellus Varus ▼

The sun was setting on the horizon, casting rays of dying light across the floodplains. He stood on the edge of the forest, pines at his back. He thought the trees might never end, but he'd found the edge and now he was hesitant to leave. The others lingered in the wood where he'd left them, so he knew he could not go far. He wondered how much longer would he have to go until he found his eldest son. Since he'd followed his ex mate, Jaelin, his life had slowly fallen apart, as if he'd made a mistake in doing so. She disappeared along with their son and he'd been left with no other option but to return home. He'd left another sort of family behind when he'd chased after her and he thought everything would be fine; he'd thought he'd have something to return to.

Marcel guessed that when he returned, Cosette and Monroe would still be there waiting for he and Gaia.

The golden wolf huff as he gazed into the sunset. The light reflected off the low swamp hurt his eyes. He squinted and looked away, then turned and began padding into the marsh. He could travel a bit more before heading back. If they did not find his son here then he supposed they would have to move on again...

Phaedra
fate has woven the

thread of life with pain

Phaedra wanted to watch the setting sun directly, but it hurt her eyes to do so. She settled with casting glances at the surrounding painted skies, which were shaded in hues of purple, crimson, and yellow. It was a beautiful place, despite it being rather wet. The hot summer sun had baked the water to an uncomfortable warm temperature, but the grass was verdant green, and there was abundant life here. She saw a heron flying nearby, and when she focused in on the puddles and streams near her, she swore she saw some fish. It was an unusual place, to be sure, but she liked it so far.

She picked her way carefully along a dry spot, not wanting to soak her paws completely. She had ended up here rather by accident. It had been trees, and then it hadn't been. That's sort of the way she thought Cyrileth worked all the time. It was this, and then it was that. There was no real explanation for why, or where, or how. At least not one she knew of. No one had explained Cyrileth to her, and she was not keen to keep asking and displaying her complete lack of knowledge.

A sudden breeze blew forth an unfamiliar scent. She stopped moving, glancing around to see a golden-toned wolf moving towards her. He was male and a stranger, as most of them were. Her emerald gaze narrowed slightly in indecision. She was not sure whether to leave or to stay -- but her instinct, as always, was to test the waters. She turned to face him, not sure if he'd spotted her yet. "Hello," she called, hoping her voice did not sound too young. He looked much older than her.

"speak"

Marcellus had been so absorbed in thought that he hadn't noticed the young girl approaching him. When she called out, he turned his head to look upon her. Pale rose eyes blinked as he processed her presence a moment, never a wary wolf, and then a warm smile graced his handsome features.

He had yet to meet anyone from this new place. "Hello."

The man's ears flicked and his tail brushed against the backs of his legs in a friendly nature. "I'm Marcellus, but you can call me Marcel if you like. What's your name?" he asked. He figured he would get pleasantries out of the way before asking her anything else. It would be rude to interrogate her about this land and his son right away. As much as he wanted to know Monroe's whereabouts, he knew being ridiculous about it would get him nowhere.

So he patiently waited for a response and wondered all kinds of things as he waited. Like who she was, where she was from, did she know anything that might help him...

All these thoughts tumbled around in his head but were kept silent for the time being as he watched the woman with quiet interest.
