For many weeks he had pondered, and for many weeks the thought of Kylar and Aurelia rang heavily on his mind. There was once a time where his mother ruled a pack on the beach, all of whom were the most experienced fighters around and valued their loyalty to not only her, but their home as well. Anteros had chosen the path of his mother, her guidance had always been a strong factor in his life and she had always been one he looked up to. He didn't remember much of his father, but there was no doubt his mother wouldn't have chosen anyone who didn't suit her, or match her mental and psychical strength. Though their pack views would be different in his mind it was all of the same. He knew Kylar did not need his protection for she was a fierce provider on her own, but he wanted her to have a home, a safe space to rest her head at night that did not require watching over her shoulder. Lands she could roam free on to hunt, to frolic...to live.

Chin tilted until his muzzle met the heavens, letting out a call for not only his companion, but her niece as well. He hoped they had not been too far, for this was an area they had not often traveled. He had scouted it many times, back and forth and within every nook and cranny. He had chased out the things that made this place even somewhat threatening. For her there was no end to his madness, and for her he would always give his life even though he knew she did not approve of such a mindset.

Aurelia Rose

Aurelia had been avoiding the pine forest ever since running into him once again. She had escaped this time, with the help of Kylar, but now Anteros was calling them to the pines and as she stood in what she assumed was the shadows of their wake she trembled. She drew in a shaky breath and felt her bravery return once Kylar brushed against her side.

It was time to go, and so they dove into the forest together.

As they came closer, Aurelia slowed her run and her ears swiveled on her head to catch the familiar sounds of the forest around them.

Nostrils flared to catch Anteros' scent and she paused before pushing through the foliage and coming into view. "Anteros?" she said softly. She didn't say much more as she sat down.

Since finding Kylar she had deviated from Alecto, and the caves. She spent more time with her aunt and her aunt's friend, finding a closeness with her kin that she had never experienced before and craved so deeply she couldn't explain it. She could only hope Alecto understood and eventually, she knew, she would have to make a choice. In her heart she knew what her choice would be, but a part of her wondered if she could not have the best of both worlds.

Kylar had yearned to enter the pine forest again, to walk its twisted trails and hunt for the beast that lurked within. Her rage was a palpable thing, for it was not merely felt. It had invaded her life, taunting her in her sleep and driving her training until black paws were cracked and bleeding. Kassian's assault of Aurelia had filled Kylar with undeniable fear—and it was that fear that had washed away the gold gilding upon her dreams. If she was to be a knight, it was not for her. For so long, Kylar's aspirations to strength had stemmed from a sense of self-sufficiency. She had wanted to no longer be a dependent leech on those she cared about. That devil, however, had made her aware of the true necessity of strength in this world.

With power came the ability to protect.

Though she was little more than a piranha upon land, Kylar stayed by her niece's side. She was quick to draw alongside the maiden when Anteros' call caused her ears to perk. A curious expression brightened in ruby eyes but not before she cast a grim glance at the shadows.

Was Aurelia ready?

Tan met black as their shoulders brushed. There was a moment's silence and then Aurelia bounded into the cloying, twisted wood. Kylar slowed them down for running was a feat she had yet to work up to. A bitter taste flooded her mouth, one that accompanied the memories of bloodshed that now stained the forest.

When Anteros appeared within the shadows, Aurelia was the first to speak.

"We need somewhere safe for Aurelia," Kylar began, all at once feeling stiffness line her limbs. Even though Anteros had been the one to call them, Kylar could not wait to hear what he had to say. Her niece needed to be safe and, of all the wolves she knew, Anteros would know best.

"We are all young and naive still."

They appeared from the shadows, one after another with the first to arrive being Aurelia. Golden orbs watched her features turn into something a bit confused, his name softly left her lips as he greeted her naturally. "Aurelia," audits shifted forward atop his crown as he watched Kylar approach next. She didn't speak his name, but instead made it known that Aurelia needed a safe place to say—though she seemed somewhat, alarmed. "Did something happen?" Brows furrowed, his tone stern, assuming the man who had hurt Kylar had possibly done the same to her niece. This was exactly why he had proceeded forward with the Sanctuary, and they could not waste another moment.

"There is something I needed to speak to the both of you about, for reasons such as this." He drew in a deep breath, allowing the air to pass softly through his nostrils before he continued. Given Kylar's concerns he hoped she would agree with his plan, as her opinion mattered in this big decision. "I have decided to make a safe space for all of us, here, in the Pine Forest. I have scouted numerous areas in the midst of this decision, and I found this was best place for a home. Permanently." Golden orbs moved from Aurelia to Kylar, waiting on any rebuttable they may have had or perhaps opposite.

Aurelia Rose

Aurelia's ears tilted back at the question. "No, not... not recently..." she said softly. She still wasn't happy that Kylar now knew, but she was grateful she had been there to rescue her. If not for her... Aurelia might not even be here now. Swallowing, she looked to Anteros, who was telling them now that he intended to make this a home, their home. This forest had been her home for most of her life, it was where she had been born and where she had grown up. It was also where she had been hurt... but if others were here to chase the monsters away from her home... she felt hopeful. Anteros was big, and he was strong.

She turned her head, absent gaze drifting towards Kylar's scent. "You know I will stay with you..." she said softly. "I just... I would like to ask Alecto to come as well, or at least say goodbye. She has helped me so much," she said quietly. She had yet to speak to the woman, though she was sure the other had noticed her recent distance.

Aurelia did not think that Anteros would mind, Alecto was a good woman and she would do well here -- if she chose to join them. The caves stunk of other wolves now anyway, they could no longer stay there.

"I was born in this forest, I can think of no better home. But that man," she said, her voice somehow softer and quieter than before. She was referring to the one Kylar had saved her from. "I think maybe he lives here too. He needs to be chased away," she said. Despite all that he had done to her, she chose not to say worse of him. Her gaze drifted towards where Anteros was and she waited for Kylar to mention the man, and perhaps his appearance to their friend. She, of course, could offer nothing about that.

Whoever he was, they needed to watch out for him; he couldn't stay here.

They had formed a family—and while small, it was genuine. The love she felt for Aurelia went beyond the cursory affection between aunt and niece. It was no cursory thing, nor would it ever be. When Kylar had asked the girl if she wished to be family, she had meant it in utter entirety. From good days to bad, from dusk til dawn, Aurelia was her responsibility and her most cherished companion. The notion that another might hurt her—the fact that one had—had struck Kylar in the deepest pit of her stomach. It had awoken the sleeping knight that, until now, she had only been playing at. This was not a matter of drills or practice, nor was it the idle swinging of a wooden sword. What Kylar craved was to graze steel against a russet throat until blood stained it red. She wanted to protect this family which that beast threatened.

There was Anteros was well, and Kylar had never found a wolf so dependable in her life. Whilst silent, he was observant and watchful. He did not often make conversation but he made up for it in small acts of service. She never went hungry—even on the days when she had insisted on hunting by herself. Though she was often empty-handed, a meal had awaited her come the day's end.

Though Anteros and Aurelia were just beginning to form a bond, Kylar trusted both and tolerated no threat to their familial unit.

"Did something happen?"
"No not... not recently..."

Ruby eyes slid sharply to her niece. They both still bore the wounds from the battle and, while most had closed, Anteros was not nearly as blind. The lie was a feeble thing, one born of shame and guilt. Lying, however, would not solve their problems.

"Something did," Kylar interjected curtly. "We were attacked in the forest by a beast whose name I do not know. To call him a wolf is to be generous." Her muzzle wrinkled and the hint of a snarl rumbled within her voice.

...

So it seemed that Anteros wished to make a home for them, and not just any home. One with borders, one with hunting grounds.

For a moment, Kylar was silent. She felt the itch to probe Anteros further, to question if this was a more elaborate plan to keep her safe and take care of her. But, in the end, she knew it was silly. He had done well in keeping a paws-off approach and, thus far, had accepted her wishes without question. When he supported her it was because she had asked him to. And... Kylar glanced at Aurelia. The girl was mentioning the burned woman from the caves, her voice sweet as she acknowledged Alecto's share in her survival. Aurelia was too sweet to be a loner starving for scraps. She deserved something more.

"Alecto deserves to know," Kylar agreed, sagging a bit onto her good paw. In truth, she was exhausted from the walk here. She had pushed herself and with the moment's anger for Kassian having burned up and faded, she felt weaker than ever. Nonetheless, she could not stay angry when the Devil's face was not before her own.

What surprised Kylar most was the mention of "the man". "... He needs to be chased away."

"He's the one who attacked us before," Kylar said, offering context before she felt the fires of anger once more. She turned her gaze to Anteros. "I think your Sanctuary is a fine idea." Kylar truly meant it, and she stared at him meaningfully.

"That man will run," the she-wolf seethed, bristling from her memories of him. "Or he will be decapitated, his head shoved on a pike, and his corpse paraded around the borders." Whilst perhaps a diametric shift from the softness she had voiced mere seconds before, Kylar offered no second chances to that hell-hound. He would meet the full extent of her wrath which—as Kylar was realizing—was quite a bit.

'Not recently.'

Immediatly his golden gaze shifted to his compaion, her brows skewed in a way he had not seen since she had been upset at him for leaving.

'Something did.'

She quickly interjected and the ebon' man took notice, for it seemed Kylar had not only been bothered, but angry as well. She spoke of how they were attacked and he felt the lump in his throat. Cheeks swelled with heat while she explained, his eyes no longer held golden softness. Again. Again she had been attacked and again he had not been there, but this time it was not Kylar. He mirrored her growl with his own, one that emitted in the deepest pit of his chords and hung off the heaviest part of his heart. It was a rare thing for Anteros to display such anger, and even rarer to become so angry to begin with. This was not a game, he would not tolerate those who held ill will toward those he cared about. If blood was what these wolves of Cyrileth sought then he would be sure to repay the debt.

Aurelia spoke of a wolf known as Alecto, and Kylar agreed on her notion that she wished to let her know she had taken refuge in the Pine Forest. "I trust the decisions you both make," he began, his eyes trailing over Aurelia before they settled on Kylar's features.

'That man will run.'

He felt her fury.

'Or he will be decapitated, his head shoved on a pike, and his corpse paraded around the borders.'

Audits flicked forward, "There are a few whose blood I will use to paint the borders, for those who do not take warnings lightly." He referred to the first man who attacked Kylar. "Describe him to me the best you can Kylar. Spare no detail."

He was not just the peace of The Sanctuary, he was the war as well.

Aurelia Rose

Kylar was quick not to dismiss the man, though she did not reveal all of his sins and for that Aurelia was grateful. She did not expect such anger to radiate from Anteros once her aunt painted such a vivid scene. A shiver ran down her spine and she knew she would never want to be on her bad side.

Though she would never say it out loud, she agreed with her vision.

Momentarily, her thoughts trailed to Alecto as Anteros requested the man's description, likely to prepare himself should they cross paths.

A part of her hoped the woman would come, retreat from the caves and join them in the forest, or if not... where would she go? Would she join the group that had claimed the caves for their own or find shelter elsewhere? She couldn't help but worry for her friend. Her mind drifted back to reality and she slowly sat down. Her gaze lingered nowhere in particular, though it was obvious she was still paying attention with the way her ears twitched atop her head. She did not want to know what the man looked liked, it mattered little to her. He was ugly in her head already.

But if she had a description, better yet a name if they had been so lucky, she could tell Alecto, or Sanada. The ones who knew what had happened would be able to tell him from Adam and they could... do whatever they wanted to him.

Anteros was one of peace—if not by nature, then by habit. He lived simply and quietly, unwavering in his duties and his emotions. Few could pull a smile from his lips or draw a laugh from his chest. Growls were rare by that same token. His dissatisfaction and his joy was often reflected in golden eyes, the feelings just slanted mirrors of one's own face looking back. In this moment, however, Anteros was not composed of stone and granite. Rather, veins of rage showed within the cracks. A snarl of his own rumbled within his chest, its sound louder than her own. It reverberated through her bones and, in that moment, filled her with conviction.

Whilst Aurelia's mind wandered, Kylar felt as though a general poised over a table of lacquered wood. A map was splayed over the top and pins marked regions for conquer. Anteros was the lord, his palms pressed possessively against the Pine Forest.

"There are a few whose blood I will use to paint the borders—"

Her brow knit, knowing subconsciously just who he referred to. She knew that Anteros still harbored revenge in his heart for Sanada. While she had demanded that he never take it, that he not wage battles for her, she knew that his obedience could only go so far. What he felt for her was not pity—but his desire to protect was greater than his sense of self-preservation. The man had gone with a party to fight a bear for fear that the beast might find her one day.

She knew, deep down, that Anteros and Sanada would meet one day—and largely by the Abersinthe's doing. It would not be a pleasant day... and she would be forced to lick Anteros' wounds or push him away.

Warily, she glanced at Aurelia. Would the description of her attacker give fodder to the girl's nightmares?

"Do you wish to know, Aurelia?" Her ears flicked back with worry for her niece. If the girl did not, she would whisper it into Anteros' ear.

"We are all young and naive still."

There was long silence, and in this silence he was observant—watching the twists and turns of features as he finished speaking. He knew there had to be bad memories, and he was very much aware that Aurelia more then likely did not want to relive the nightmare as Kylar would soon confirm. She asked her niece, and without interruption he would wait, never to force any of his comrades into discomfort. Though his skin still boiled his features settled into usual state, stoic, seemingly unresponsive though he took everything into account. The ebon' male remembered all requests, especially the ones Kylar often lay on him, her request to let the man who attacked her be.

Despite his disposition he would respect—the gods knowing she had been her attackers only saving grace.

For he was a vengeful man, masked behind a seemingly careless stare.

He added to the silence for he was always patient. Though his temper had the tendency to flare, he was always the same. He did not act on anger, that was the fools way—and he certainly was no fool.
