Angel of Mine

One wolf sees the other and is instantly stricken with butterflies, but perhaps that’s the alcohol speaking? Perhaps you shouldn’t have gotten into the berry patch earlier that day. There’s something special about this other wolf, either due to their appearance or something else. Hmmmm…

-- Note: Being drunk on the fermented berries is optional, and users may choose to alter the pose and prompt as suits their tastes.

The berry patch was too good of a bounty to pass it by, even if he had no one to enjoy it with. Calling his brother was an option, of course, however.. their den was far away, and there was no need to carelessly risk giving Triss and the Outlaws that he wasn't entirely on his own out here. They'll find out sooner or later, to be sure, but he'll be the one to decide when. So today, he'll most likely drink alone.

Before long, the red male was lying on his back, relaxing to the warmth in his veins, the buzz in his head, the faint unsteadiness of his vision. It reminded him of that one time with Ikarus... ah, he wouldn't have thought that he could miss the white wolf this much. Most of the time, he simply enjoyed the freedom he had now, the fact that every day was completely different.. with someone new to keep him company, if he so wanted and had the luck. But he wasn't entirely immune to attachment, even if he liked to pretend otherwise.

Nicharion eyed the berries again. Maybe he could afford to get completely hammered? Not the best place to do so, with cliffs and roaring waterfalls being so close by. Surely though, even when drunk he wouldn't be so reckless for that to be a problem. No, not him. The rugged brute stood up, swaying for a moment, but he quickly got his balanced under control. Before walking over to his berries, he gave his surroundings a quick look-over...

"speech"

Water roars around her, rushing from inland sources and down the slippery precipice into depths unknown. She licks her lips nervously, ears folding downwards as she tries her best not to be intimidated by the sheer drop. Previous memories of the falls were not good as phantom yowls of insanity still echo in her head, recollections of the deranged coyote yet to leave the recesses of her mind. She had been lucky then to have escaped with her life, even as the waters had threatened to drag her beneath their surface. She supposes that it's sheer curiosity that brings her back; to see what's changed and what hasn't.

Carefully descending wet slopes, she travels behind waterfalls, fearful yet appreciative of the dangerous beauty that they held. Scents are masked by salt and as far as she can see, she is alone.

It's not really the best of locations to reflect on inner thoughts; home in the pines is a far better place to do that, but she supposes the sound of plunging water is something else. She soon reaches a dry spot with some green growth a little away from the nearest waterfall. The roaring of water is now a background rumble rather than a full-frontal assault and she decides that a break ought to be good.

She notices the male fairly quickly, his large form immediately noticeable even from afar. She watches him nose a berry patch, obvious with intent to eat. Pressing her lips together, she wonders if she should tell him that they make people go funny when eaten. Like really funny.

He seems awfully keen to eat them though... Maybe she shouldn't.

Seeing nothing interesting, the red brute made a sudden, sharp turn towards the berry patch. And then he saw her, opposite side of where he decided to look around. He froze abruptly, but didn't manage his momentum properly and had to make a few quick additional steps to avoid falling over. Then, he grinned. "Company! Perfect!" It was just what he needed. Or, well.. at least he hoped so. Company could easily turn out to be an annoyance. If that were the case now.. he'd be quite displeased.

Seemingly forgetting about the woman, Nicharion finished his journey to the berries and tore a bunch away from the bush. The smell nearly made him gag. He'd always hated it, and the taste too - but the effect was worth the few moments of discomfort. He carried his prize back to the exact spot where he was resting a moment ago, oddly meticulous for someone mildly inebriated. Only then did his gaze turn back to the stranger. "Come, come, no need to be shy. The berries are just right."

He wasn't quite sure if the female, should she take him up on this offer, was lucky or just the opposite. He likely was more amicable when drunk, but any sort of annoyance would draw out a less controlled response than usual.. "I don't like waiting, y'know!" His eyes narrowed, briefly showing cold clarity. Indeed, he wasn't drunk to the point of putting up with being annoyed.

The man catches onto her quickly and she flinches when he speaks, not expecting him to beckon her over. Her snout wriggles as she tries to scent him, but with the wind so tumultuous and being so close to the water, smells are smothered easily. She smiles nervously but not unkindly. Not really having any real reason to back away, not in fear nor of disinterest, she shyly makes her way over, maintaining a respectable distance from him.

She watches him with mild unease as he tears a branch of fruits off the plant, wondering if he really is going to eat all of it. It's not a good idea, she thinks with trepidation, people really do go funny when they eat those. When he looks back at her, she straightens in response, body preparing instinctively for anything that might happen.

From his spontaneous reactions, she guesses that he's already eaten a couple of them and grimaces. There's a moment of clarity where a faint growl enters his voice as he demands her to go to him. Swallowing, she edges nearer and stares apprehensively at the branchlets.

"Um," she starts softly, "You shouldn't eat that many in one go..." Shuffling on one foot, she keeps her tone gentle and continues on timidly with a slight tremor in her voice. "You'll get sick."

Frankly, Nicharion was quite surprised that she humored his request. It would have been the reasonable thing to ignore him entirely, and it wasn't like he'd bother going after her... although, perhaps she didn't know that. One thing that he could tell was that she didn't seem to be his kind of company. Timid, quiet and skittish. The kind of wolf he always wanted to growl at and impatiently tell them to speak up already, which of course tended to achieve the opposite result. He considered just scoffing and ignoring her from now on, but.. thankfully, at his disposal he had a tool that might make her company more palatable.

And she set herself up for it so neatly too, that he couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Well them, it's a good thing you're here to help me with them if you're so concerned, eh?" As if he didn't know how he'll feel come next morning. Who does she think he is, a kid? Not to mention this laughable concern for someone she just met. Truly, she was the worst kind. But he said nothing of it, instead only grinning as he seated himself. "You look like you could use relax time." he offered, a bit softer this time. He could play at being nice too, even if made him nauseous.

Expecting that it'll make her feel more obliged to join him, the red male leaned down and took a quick bite, making sure it'd look bigger than it actually was. She had some catching up to do; he couldn't incapacitate himself before she gets that out of the way. He swallowed quickly, not caring for the taste, and shook his head before sighing contentedly. "Ah.. just the right amount of revolting." In contrast, the warmth spreading in his belly was truly divine. "So, what brings you here?" Pointless small talk, but if that what it takes for her to loosen up, so be it. For the time being, he could play along.

She feels trepidation, hesitation to adhere to the male's wishes, unwilling to partake in the perilous feast. Even with the both of them, eating that amount of berries would do neither of them any good. Faltering in her steps, she comes to settle close enough to be intimate but allowing some distance between them. For now, the man does not seem to be dangerous, his own attention divided in half between his food and her.

Staring at the torn branches at their feet, the fruits gleam at her invitingly, their vibrant colour beckoning for her to consume them. Gently rolling a stray berry towards herself, she sniffs at it lightly, face scrunching up at the objectionable scent. It looks like it might have a sweet taste and if she were any less knowledgeable on the effects of colourful things, she might have taken a bite.

The man reveals to her its true flavour, a deceptive mixture of vile and something else and it further deters her from his request. Sucking in her lips, she keeps her paw atop her fallen fruit as if promising potential consumption but does not make any move to do so.

He asks a question and she smiles weakly, unsure of the answer. There is no real reason, she supposes. She will go to wherever her feet take her and even if it a place of terrible memories, she will not stop. Ears flickering, she murmurs softly, "Um... Just to look around, I suppose... See new things and that sort of stuff."

Deciding to take a chance, she cautiously offers up the same query. "What about you?"

She wasn't the wisest one around, to be sure. Eating that one berry that she decided to touch would have hardly had any effect, but it would have been a step towards appeasing him. Instead, she chose to stop short of that, and it was incredibly irritating. Nicharion considered snapping right there and then... but in the end, it wasn't worth the effort of standing up. "'See', but apparently not 'try'." The dark male scoffed, then he took another bite. There was no point in pacing himself, he could spend a lifetime and still fail to get this prude more drunk than he was.

He never could understand that kind of reluctance. What's the point of living if you try to steer clear of the many things that life has to offer? Then again.. he couldn't really say that being open to new experiences gave his life much of a purpose, either. The woman returned his question, as if there was any chance he'd answer at this point. "I don't think you care." A fair assumption, considering how wasted his 'hospitality' was on her. Not one he actually believed, but a good excuse nonetheless.

But his mind entertained that train of thought longer than he planned to. "I don't really care either." No matter where he was or what he was doing, it was just a temporary distraction from not knowing what to do with himself. The brute looked away into the distance, chewing his berries absentmindedly. If Manon wanted to make herself scarce, now was the right moment.
