Aurelia Rose

A silence between them distracted her from her thoughts and Aurelia's ears perked as her absent stare began to drift about. Kylar's question hung in the air heavy and her ears folded. "No," was her automatic response. But quickly, came an additive. "But I should," she murmured solemnly. Kylar would know what she meant. There were few wolves that knew of what had happened beyond that day. If she could know anything about him, she should.

At the very least so she could warn others about him. She would not want anyone else to suffer her same fate.

The silver woman fell silent, ears flicking back up to catch the words that would fall from Kylar's lips. She knew the disdain they would be spoken with and she felt the same within herself. Aurelia was not a hateful wolf, but she could have easily become one. She had grown bitter and angry and mistrustful, but there were days when it wasn't so bad. She didn't want to feel that way; she wanted to be happy. All she had ever wanted was to be happy.

Often times it seemed like that was just a bit too much to ask.

"No, but I should."

Her eyes were sad when they searched Aurelia's face. The girl had gone through so much—abandonment, defenselessness, dependency, malnourishment, sexual assault. She was still so young and yet, here she was, swallowing her fears and asking to know the face behind her nightmares. This was not a desire, it was a duty.

Was this what happened to a wolf who had been forced to grow up too fast?

"All you should do is stay safe and stay comfortable." Kylar's ears twitched before she eased her shoulder into her niece. Her muzzle ghosted the girl's silvery cheek. "Another time. I will tell you should you ever ask." It was a promise, though one she hoped not to fulfill. In a perfect world, knowing the devil's features would become obsolete.

Limping forward to Anteros, she met his impassive gaze. Then, if allowed, she would bring her muzzle to his ear and whisper: "Russet, black, and cream fur. Red eyes but is missing the right one. Scarred face—one along his lips makes it look as though he's smiling."

She sucked in a breath of air and, inadvertently, Anteros' scent. It was a familiar and comforting smell, one that forced her to feel a little relief.

Speaking louder now, she addressed them both. "This can't just be a sanctuary for the broken. It will be a place to rebuild, to help those who are crippled to rebuild and become strong." Bitter memories made the taste upon her tongue all the sweeter. "We're not truly protecting anyone if we can't teach them to protect themselves."

"We are all young and naive still."

Aurelia displayed strength, though he didn't know how strong she truly was. The ebon' male only knew what he was told, nothing before. Had he know, had he truly know the devil this man was Anteros would have sought his blood this very minute. Behind all those whom were quiet there was life—they were certainly not to be taken for granted, or bypassed for anything weak. In mind and body Anteros harbored strength, an while passive most of the time he was a very just man, one who fought for right and sought the blood of all who threatened that.

'Another time. I will tell you should you ever ask.'

Kylar cared for Aurelia, even in the short time they knew one another she had taken her niece under her wing and showed her endless affection. She was the warmth he needed in his life, to heat up his much cooler core. While he expressed very little he did feel, and it was Kylar who stirred the emotion in such a way he could not explain.

His companion moved closer to him, pressing her muzzle close to his ear as she began to provide him with the details he so desired. Golden hues closed, his imagination painting to picture of his man until it was clear enough for him to cement it into memory. When she pulled away his eyes opened once more, her words cascading into his audits like a sweet melody. She was on the right path, and in truth she was right. He could not protect them all on his own, and where their weakness settled there were hidden, unimaginable strengths that no wolf with all blessings could understand.

"I agree," his tone softened now in comparison to what he had felt moments ago. He had faith they would thrive in the Pine Forest.

Aurelia Rose

She tilted her face towards her aunts touch, almost able to tell the difference between hers and Anteros' by now. She decided against it, and told only Anteros. Aurelia looked down, feeling both frustrated and relieved.

As Kylar spoke up again, she stated this Sanctuary was to be one for rehabilitation, where they would help those who helped themselves. Aurelia liked the idea, and she appreciated it. She did not want to be a complete burden on those around her and hated the idea of always being doted on (though sometimes, it was nice she had to admit).

"I agree, too." she said, mirroring Anteros. "I'm sure there are more like me, who will never be able to do everything on their own... but it is always better not to be completely helpless," she said softly. Nobody had been around to teach her how to survive until now, and she was nearly two. To think of how much better her life could have been if she had had Kylar and Anteros all this time... if they could help others, she wanted to do so.

"To think my home will become my Sanctuary again..." she said. The smile on her lips somehow even made its way into her tone. It had not been the best, it had provided safety and food for the most part when she'd been alone.

He dis—agreed.

Black-tipped ears twitched and her eyes widened slightly. Her lips form a small "o" as she stared at her companion. She had grown so used to fighting about this detail that, subconsciously, she had prepped herself for an argument. In the back of her mind, she had been constructing her case and baiting debate. Yet, without even a tug upon his teeth, Anteros agreed. His gaze—while often so stark—was soft. Likewise, when he spoke, it felt intimately directed at her.

Aurelia soon chimed in, pulling Kylar's gaze to the silver maiden. There was life within the girl's voice, life that had not been there mere moments before. Hope lingered as well, brightening each word. Aurelia seemed giddy, albeit in a way sweet and shy.

Though Kylar reserved anger for Kassian still, she packed it away for the moment. She could not be furious when witnessing the blossoming of a flower or the support of a friend.

Glancing at Anteros—to whom she still stood quite close—Kylar felt a smile break over her lips. She grinned hopelessly before giving a small shake of her head. Her brow pushed against his cheek and her tail gave a couple wags. "It looks like we've got a good shot at this," she cheered, weak from relief.

Plans were in motion, and Anteros was certainly a force that would not be stopped now that his mind was set and they were all on the same page. Though Kylar seemed taken aback by his agreement he was content knowing that both she, and Aurelia had something more to look forward to. His job was nearly complete, and while things after would more then likely be challenging, he was ready to undergo it all. He dipped his head into Kylar's touch, his eyes closing for a moment as he inhaled her scent and took in her words. There was nothing more he needed to share in the company of those he grew most fond of.

The night would be rolling in, but they didn't need to move from where they were. This would be home soon enough, to not only them, but those who desired all the same things they did. The thought was comforting, but he didn't care as much about his comfort then he did about Aurelia's and Kylars.
